Mayors of the three BJP-ruled municipal corporations in the national Capital called on lieutenant Governor Anil Baijal on Friday and sought his intervention in releasing finance commission funds to the ailing corporations from the Delhi Government.

North Mayor Adesh Gupta said the Delhi Government has declined to implement the 4th DFC recommendations and asked the Centre to fulfill its obligations first.

“As per the recommendations of 3rd Delhi Finance Commission, the amount has not been released. Also, Municipal Reforms Fund for the year 2013-14, 2014-15 and 2016-17 amounting to Rs 372.00 crore has not been released,” he said.

“This partial releasing of fund by the Delhi Government is affecting the functioning of the Corporation, which in turn, is affecting the citizens and depicts a poor image of the corporation.”

The corporation earlier requested the State Government for allocating Rs 1,202 crore under ‘Urban Development and Transport Sector’ mainly to carry out the conservancy, sanitation and other related work but till date nothing has been received under this scheme, he said.

Gupta said the annual salary and pension liability in North Corporation is Rs 3,540 crore but due to the insufficient financial resources, disbursement of salary and pension is delayed by about two months.

The mayors including Adesh Gupta (North Delhi civic body), Bipin Bihar Singh (East Delhi civic body) and Narender Chawla (South Delhi civic body) have also warned of staging a dharna in front of Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal’s office if funds are not relased in a week.
