Delhi Police have detained a 17-year-old juvenile, who masterminded the conspiracy and breakout from Sewa Kutir observation home in North West Delhi’s Mukherjee Nagar. The juvenile was detained on Thursday morning when he was trying to pick a pocket at Sarai Kale Khan bus stop.
A senior police officer said that the juvenile is a history-sheeter with 10 criminal cases — murder, attempt to murder, robbery, snatching and Arms Act — registered against him in several police stations. In one such case, he fired at police personnel in East Delhi’s Trilokpuri area. The minor has cases registered against him in Nizamuddin, Narela, Ambedkar Nagar, Sunlight Colony and Alipur Police Stations.
On Saturday evening, 33 juveniles went on the rampage at the correctional facility. The vandalism lasted nearly eight hours from Saturday evening to Sunday morning. They
burnt gas cylinders, the superintendent’s office, medical room and entry gates, pillaged Rs40,000 from the cash till and pelted stones at police and security personnel.
As per the juvenile’s ploy, he stole food and returned to the terrace of their dormitory where he, along with other occupants, ate and drank for the next half an hour while guards and police personnel steered clear for fear of being attacked.
“After he fled along with his associates, he first went to his friend’s house in Outer Delhi’s Narela and after spending the night, he went to Trilokpuri where he slept in the park,” the officer added.
