A 29-year-old man from Manipur was beaten to death by a group of five to six men aged between 25-30 years, police said on Monday. Akha Salouni, a resident of Munirka in South Delhi, was allegedly beaten up in South Delhi’s Kotla Mubarakpur area around 2.30 am after a quarrel with the assaulters.

Three people — Sanjay Basoya (24), Shakti Basoya (21) and Rajiv, alias Raju (25)  — have been detained by the police and are being questioned. Police have learnt that the accused had come to a Big Apple shop on Gurdwara Road in Kotla Mubarakpur area in a white Hyundai Verna and they assaulted Salouni following an argument.

He was rushed to the All India Institute of Medical Science (AIIMS) Trauma Centre, where he was brought dead. Salouni’s body has been preserved for a post-mortem examination, which will be conducted later in the day after his family members arrive. A medical board is likely to be constituted for the autopsy.

Joint Commissioner of Police Robin Hibu said, “Police received a call regarding a

quarrel around 2.30 am. The police team on arriving at the spot found Salouni unconscious. He was rushed to AIIMS Trauma Centre in a PCR van but hospital authorities pronounced him dead on arrival.”

“A case has been registered against unknown persons. The case is being probed from all angles as there seems no sudden provocation,” he said. “Call details of the victim’s mobile phone are being analysed and a special team has been formed to crack the case,” another police official said. Police has seized the footage of a CCTV camera installed outside a shop near the spot. Salouni, employed with a BPO, and his friends — Nagendra and Dihe Kazhiihri — were returning from Masoorpur area in an autorickshaw when he was attacked.

The shopkeepers had allegedly mocked Nido’s hairstyle and he had in turn thrown a rock at the store, shattering the display window.
