Massive hunt has been launched to nab a gang of cow smugglers, who had shot at a ‘Gau Rakshak’ identified as Mohit alias Monu on Thursday morning. The Crime Investigation Agency (CIA) of Gurugram police and local police teams are conducting raids at their possible hideouts.
"Six teams of CIA including teams of police stations are on the task. We have also alerted the neighbouring districts police to share more information about the culprits because they belong to Mewat district," said Rajeev Deshwal, the Deputy Commissioner of Police (crime).
"We have given a memorandum to the district police to take quick action against the cow smugglers. We will also urge the State Government to amend the Gauvansh Sanrakshk and Gausamvardhan Act, 2015 to make provisions for harsher punishment," said Sandeep, the victim's brother.
"We have received some major inputs about the criminals. The raiding team will soon arrest the culprits. Also, adequate security arrangements have been made at the hospital where the victim is undergoing treatment," said the DCP.
As the news of an injury to a gau rakshak spread, a large number of activists from several Hindu outfits assembled at the hospital on Friday and inquired about the conditions of the victim.
"We have given an ultimatum to the police as well as the district administration.
If the culprits are not arrested soon will organise a large scale protest in the district," said, a member of a Hindu organisation.
