A power theft accused involved in illegally charging of e-rickshaw batteries has been sent to judicial custody for 10 days by the Special Electricity Court, Rohini.

The accused, identified as Dalip, was booked for direct theft of electricity by Tata Power-Delhi Distribution limited (TPDDl) in October 2015 as he was found running commercial activity of charging E- rickshaw batteries. A total load of 13.185 KW was found connected at his premises without meter for running the activity. The bill of `10,00,734 was raised in the case.

After hearing the bail application, Additional Session Judge Swarna Kanta Sharma denied the bail in view of fact that the accused was a habitual offender and was involved in heavy theft of electricity. Court took strict view of the fact that such activities are rampant these days and strong actions are required to curb such activities.

It must be noted that TPDDl has filed several FIRs at Jahangirpuri, Subhash Palace and Badli Police Stations against people who are illegally charging E-rickshaw batteries without having legal meter connections. These cases are listed for hearing at the Special Electricity Court Rohini in the coming days.
