Delhi Police has arrested a man, who a week ago had allegedly shot dead his 55-year-old mother following a quarrel between them in outer Delhi's Mundka.
The accused has been identified as Sandeep, who worked as a driver earlier but is presently unemployed. Police said that the accused was absconding since the incident took place on September 1.
According to Parvinder Singh, the Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP), Outer district, Sandeep left his job and got addicted to alcohol and on the night of incident, an argument broke out between the mother-son duo after she warned him to mend his ways.
“In a fit of rage, he opened fire on her and the bullet peered through her throat. Soon after the incident, he allegedly came out of his house shouting that he had shot his mother,” said the DCP.
“The injured woman Roshni was taken to the Action Balaji Hospital by a relative, Pardeep, who lives nearby and she later succumbed to injuries during the course of her treatment,” he said.
“Sandeep was arrested on September 7 after a chase of eight days including raids at more than 100 hideouts, analysis of about 150 CCTV cameras, interrogation of more than 400 persons,” he said.
Sandeep got married to his wife Ritu in 2013 and the couple has a five-years-old daughter. However, their relationship soon deteriorated and Ritu started living with her parents while the child stayed with Sandeep and his mother.
“During questioning, Sandeep disclosed that he got addicted to drinking after he quit his job as a driver. His mother used to warn him to mend his ways and gradually there were arguments between them on daily basis,” said the DCP.
“On the night of September 1, Roshni again pulled up her son to mend his ways. The woman managed to lock his five-year-old daughter inside a bathroom to ensure that she does not get harmed in any way if the situation goes out of control, he said.
The accused, however, opened fire on her. He also discarded his phone before escaping so that he could not be caught, he added.
Two country made firearms, one dummy pistol, 13 live cartridges, six empty cartridges were seized in the case, police said.
