A minor incident blew into a full-fledged road rage after a group of around dozen people thrashed a Delhi Police Head Constable, who tried to sort out the issue. Four others sustained injuries as they were beaten black and blue.
It all started when a youth, who was riding a bike in Jamia Nagar, brushed past a local youth and a heated argument ensued. The matter was sorted out, but the youth returned with his supporters to take revenge.
Police said that the incident occurred around 11 pm on Sunday when one of the accused, Babar, along with Majeed, was returning home and on their way, they allegedly hit one local Imran, who was sitting outside his house. “After hitting him, they started abusing him, but in the meantime, Imran’s brothers came to his rescue and the issue was resolved. Babar and Majeed returned home,” a senior police officer said.
After around 15 minutes, they both, along with a group of around dozen people arrived at Imran’s house and started thrashing him and his elder brothers. “A passerby made a call to the police control room (PCR) and informed the police about the incident. After receiving the PCR call, Head Constable Raghuraj Singh along with a constable, reached the spot and tried to pacify the matter,” the officer added.
Police said that the police personnel were recording their statements when accused Babar, along with his associates, started hurling stones at the policemen. While head constable Singh sustained serious head injury, the other constable received injuries on his face. “After hitting them, all the accused persons fled but Babar was arrested from the spot. Two separate cases were registered against Babar and his accomplices at Jamia Nagar Police station of South-East Delhi,” the officer added.
