A man was shot dead under Sahibabad police station area when he was travelling in his car. This incident occurred at about 11.00am on Friday in lajpat Nagar quarters near Hindon Air Force station.

Police said Omvir Singh (60) a resident of Rajpur was travelling in his Alto car while his younger son Praveen was driving the vehicle. When they reached near Ambe Hospital near Hindon Air Force station, three men on a motorcycle came in front of the car, which was moving slowly in trying to negotiate the bad road. The bike-borne men stopped the car and opened fire at the victim, who took bullets to his arm and chest. His son, however, missed the bullets and the criminals fled the site.

When the police reached the spot, Praveen, the son, narrated the incident and told the police that he too was targeted but managed to save himself.

In his complaint to the police, Praveen stated that it was the third attempt on his father's life. The same men had tried to kill Omvir on January 17, 2013 last in which they fired at him in the village, injuring him in his right arm, the son said.

Praveen said that the bids on his father's life were because he was a witness to the murder of his other son. He alleged that the men who had attacked his brother Pawan on August 5, 2012, who succumbed to his injuries on August 15, 2012, wanted to eliminate their father so that they could escape conviction.
