To make “safe transport” for school-going children in Delhi, leader of Opposition in the Delhi Assembly Vijender Gupta suggested a formation of five-member coordination committee in each school.
Gupta has urged to Directorate of Education (DoE), Delhi Government to constitute the above said committee.
“The department should control or regulate the transport to make the travel of school children safer as lakhs of children use these means of transports daily,” said Gupta, “At the same time a five member coordination committee should also be formed in each school which should include representatives of the parents, transporters, school management, Delhi Traffic Police and local Education Officers,” he added.
“This committee should maintain full details of all those school children to using these means of transport and the guidelines laid down by Hon'ble Supreme Court should also be followed in letter and spirit for regulating the transport used by the students,” he added.
Reacted strongly to the violation of rules by the vehicles carrying school children and referring a recent incident of the collision of a truck and a school van in Kanihya Nagar area of Delhi on 26 April, 2018, he said that truck driver was drunk and school van had already outlived its fitness a year ago, was carrying 18 children which was more than twice its capacity.
“Such vans cannot come on road in Delhi. Also this van was being driven on wrong side which caused the serious accident killing a child and seriously injuring 17 other children,” he added further.
