A young man and a teenage girl on Sunday committed suicide in a State Government-run hotel in Gurgaon by consuming sulpha drugs. Police said Ashok Kumar, 20, and Jyoti, 18, were found dead at the tourist complex in Sohna, 26 km from Gurgaon city.
Ashok hailed from Gudana village near Pataudi while Jyoti was from Kheri Khumar village in Jhajjar district. Both were unmarried. The duo had arrived at the hotel around 8.30 p.m. Saturday and booked a room for the night. “They were related to each other and in love. They also left a suicide note blaming no one for taking such an extreme step,” a senior officer said.
The one-line suicide note, bearing signatures of the duo, read, “Hum apni marzi se mar rahen hain.” Jyoti was a first-year Bachelors grad at a Rohtak college while Ashok was a school dropout.
“Ashok had booked Room No. 1 using the driving licence and ID card of his elder brother. They buzzed a waiter at 10.30 pm asking for water. They had not ordered dinner,” said police. Ashok’s body was found in bed. Jyoti’s body was found lying in the bramble outside the room. The bodies have been handed over to the family after post mortem.
