The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) on Saturday once again slammed the Lieutenant Governor over calling another meeting of Delhi Jal Board (DJB) officers. They (AAP) also said the LG is acting like a dummy of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Government.
Addressing the media, AAP legislator of the Kalkaji constituency Atishi said the LG is continuously making a mockery out of Delhi's constitutional arrangement. He called another meeting of DJB officers without informing the CM.
“The Supreme Court's constitutional bench has clearly stated that the LG only has power over land, law and order and police; everything else is under the elected government. Delhi's law and order situation is in shambles since the new LG took oath, there have been dozens of shameful incidents like sexual harassment on the metro, and rape in areas,” she said.
“I request the LG to pay attention to the cleanliness of Delhi, giving shelter to the people and law and order and safety of women instead of interfering with the jurisdiction of the state government. The LG himself is in a constitutional post, it does not suit him to flout the Constitution," Atishi said. “On 30th May, LG called a meeting of DJB officers. Two days after that, AAP raised questions on the legitimacy of the meeting.
At that point we thought that the LG was newly-elected and perhaps therefore, he was not aware about the constitutional provisions,” she stated. “But today, he once again illegally chaired another meeting of the DJB, without informing the elected state government, without informing the Chief Minister of Delhi. He summoned the officials of DJB and also went on an inspection to two sites, Pappankalan sewage treatment plant and Dhansa regulator." She concluded.
