A birthday blowout turned into a free-for-all at a brewpub in West Delhi’s West Gate Mall after a group gathered there to celebrate a friend’s birthday entered into a spat with the pub’s workers. The guests also scuffled with the bouncers present. Ten people were injured in the fracas. Cross FIRs have been registered at Rajouri Garden police station. However, no arrests have been made so far. Tempers flared when the pub manager refused to serve liquor to the patrons beyond the deadline proscribed by Delhi Police.
According to police, the drama unfolded around 11.30 pm at Keeva lounge & Bar. The party was organised by Deepak for a friend’s birthday. He had booked the place for 25 people but 35, including four girls, turned up for the shindig. All hell broke loose when one of the guests
hurled a table at a bartender injuring him.
Moreover, the guests were reportedly drunk and started misbehaving with a female staff member. When they called for another round of drinks at 11.30 pm, they were refused by the pub authorities. The guests started roughhousing the bartender. Varun, the pub manager, intervened and tried in vain to get the guests to pipe down. They refused to pick up the bar tab of Rs29,000 saying they had been gypped. This is when one of the patrons flung a table at the bartender hitting him on the head. As the guests ran
pell-mell, police was called in at 11.50 pm.
In the first FIR, Deepak alleged that the pub workers misbehaved with the girls invited and allegedly molested them. He also added that the pub authorities refused to serve them liquor at 11.30 pm despite a prior booking. A case of molestation against the pub manager has been registered. In the second FIR registered by the pub authorities, they alleged that the guests damaged pub property and also exceeded the number of the guests booked. They also stated that the guests refused to pick up the tab. “Two employees of mine quit out of fear. I have had to shut down my pub until investigations are over,” rued Akshay Chaddha, owner, Keeva.
“The CCTV footage of the pub has been seized. We are examining the claims of both the parties. Two cases have been registered.
Further investigations are underway,” said Additional Commissioner of Police (West) Ranvir Singh.
