South Delhi Mayor Shyam Sharma on Tuesday called on lieutenant-Governor Najeeb Jung and apprised him about the garbage situation in Delhi. Sharma stated that the disposal of the garbage in Delhi is becoming a big challenge.

“The landfill site of the SDMC at Okhla has reached its saturation point. The Corporation has requested allotment of a 14 acre plot to the Corporation that is very close to the landfill site. We requested the l-G to permit the Corporation to commission development projects over big vacant plots otherwise the plots can become dumping grounds,” said Sharma.

Coming down heavily on the Delhi Government, Sharma said the Government has not even cared to consider the pending due amount in respect to the 3rd Finance Commission despite specific instructions of Court.

“We had requested an appointment with the Chief Minister but he has not given any time. It seems the CM is fully involved in the politics and he has been neglecting his official responsibilities. If the pending amount is not released it will be difficult for the Corporation to release salaries in future,” he said.
