A Delhi Congress leader has demanded a CBI probe to bust the alleged organised money exchange racket run by labour contractors and land mafia in Kirari. Pratyush Kanth, who contested from Kirari Assembly seat on Congress ticket but lost, said, "The land contractors and land mafia are using the poor of the area by making them stand in front of the banks from 5 am to withdraw Rs 4,000 and get old demonetised notes exchanged."
"Many residents of Kirari have told me that in the last couple of days they are getting offers to deposit Rs 2.5 lakh in their accounts; out of which they can keep Rs 30,000 and return the rest of the money in new currency. Kirari Congress workers for the last couple of days have set-up teams in front of every bank to help the residents.
“We have been serving tea at regular intervals to people standing in queues and there are several faces who turn-up every morning to use these poor people to get money exchanged," said Kanth.
"The generation of black money has already started. We demand that CBI should immediately send its team to Kirari and all other urbanised slums of the country, where the labour contractors and the local dons must be using thousands of poor, as they are doing in Kirari, to stand in line and get Rs 4,000 changed from the banks. These poor people get between Rs 200 to Rs 300 per day," said Kanth.
"This organised racket is in turn affecting hundreds of residents who are unable to reach the bank counters and get their money changed,” he said.
