Kejri cuts through clutter minus hyperbole

Six months after becoming an MlA from the area, Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) convener Arvind Kejriwal is back in the posh New Delhi Assembly constituency. Apologising for not being available in the past few months, the former Delhi Chief Minister reached out to the residents of the constituency through mohalla sabhas and heard their issues to decide on the areas where his MlA funds ought to be spent.

With just a few months in hand to spend the MlA local Area Development (MlAlAD) fund until a likely Model Code of Conduct is imposed again in the Capital, a busy Kejriwal conducted back-to-back public meetings in various areas across the constituency. Out of his 40 scheduled meetings in New Delhi constituency, on Saturday and Sunday itself, Kejriwal organised 15 mohalla sabhas in areas like Sarojini Nagar, Nauroji Nagar, Gole Market and Mandir Marg. However, unlike earlier times, Kejriwal was found to be silently holding his meetings without catching much attention.

“First he apologised for not visiting the place after he won the seat in the Assembly elections last year. He also told that unlike the BJP or the Congress, he and his party will consult us for spending the money (MlAlAD fund). Hence, he asked us the problems we face in the area,” said Mousami Dhar Gupta, a resident of laxmibai Nagar. While many expressed their happiness to see Kejriwal back in their area after the December 4 elections, there were many who didn’t look pleased. For the disgruntled ones, MlA Kejriwal was ready with an apology for quitting in just 49 days of forming the Government.
