With a promise to rehabilitate over five lakh residents of JJ clusters in the national Capital and allow people who own plots in resettlement colonies to convert their plots to freehold on nominal prices, Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) convener Arvind Kejriwal on Friday addressed a rally at Trilokpuri, which saw communal riots flaring up about three months back.
The former Chief Minister said, “The Congress Government had employed a scheme where those who had taken plots in resettlement colonies on lease could get it on freehold if old allottees spent Rs60,000 and those who sold them spent Rs1 lakh or more. We promise that when we form the Government, we will reduce these rates to Rs10,000 for old allottees and Rs50,000 for those who sold.”
While these were announcements that Kejriwal made towards the fag end of his address, his main focus was on accusing the BJP of doing “venomous politics”. Going into details of the false promises the BJP had made in lok Sabha elections and elaborating on the benefit to people if they voted for AAP, he urged people to be selfish when they voted this coming election.
“You have all seen that the BJP is not making your life any better. You are still spending buttloads of money and the same problems still persist. In 49 days of our Government, you saw a visible reduction in your financial outflow as we cut inflation to a large extent. So this time when you vote don’t vote for me, vote for yourselves because you need to start living better. I would even ask people of BJP to vote for themselves and not show party loyalty as that will take them nowhere,” he said, while talking to the crowd at Trilokpuri’s Ramlila Maidan.
Kejriwal also directly targeted the party for its failed attempt to use the Prime Minister as their face for Delhi elections. He said, “People in the BJP are completely rattled, nervous and scared. First they ‘supposedly’ got 200 MPs to campaign in the Capital. When that did not work, it brought in its Ministers. When Ministers did not work, the Prime Minister stepped in. But unfortunately that rally also turned out to be a big flop.”
The AAP chief further said that he is fighting to make Delhi a better place while the BJP is fighting only to defeat him. He even targeted the BJP for “curbing the freedom of women”.
