Opening doors for creating a world class IT-cum-plush residential campus, the national Capital is all set to get its very own ‘East Delhi Hub’. The project which will be based on the pattern of Gurgaon’s Cyber Hub, has been proposed at Karkardooma and will be based on Transit-Oriented Development (TOD) norms. Besides offering 4,800 homes, the hub will also create around 25,000 jobs. A mega 80-storeyed iconic tower would also be constructed.
The proposal was approved by Delhi lieutenant Governor Najeeb Jung in Delhi Development Authority’s board meeting on Friday. To be developed on 30 hectares of land, the Karkardooma TOD project promises to be the first of its kind with at least two Metro stations available within an area of 500 metres, a regional railway station, Anand Vihar Railway Station, Anand Vihar ISBT, DTC bus terminal and residential colonies among others.
“This project will be a city-level magnet incorporating technology/IT and world class plazas, public space, commercial areas, office spaces, residential areas, restaurants and so on. The TOD model will facilitate complete ease of access to the transit facility, thereby making people use public transport over personal vehicles,” said a senior DDA official.
The project would provide 4,800 homes giving shelter to around 21,000 new residents. Besides, 25,000 new jobs will be created under this project as it would have 80,000 square metres of retail space, including departmental stores, convenient shopping and grocery stores in addition to high quality restaurants, plazas and recreational areas.
While all towers would have a maximum of 15 floors, the DDA will be building one iconic tower which will have 80 floors housing retail, offices and hotels to make it a new signature destination of East Delhi. All other towers in the hub shall be of 15 stories or less. There will also be a large five acre community park open to all communities in addition to several two-three acre neighbourhood parks.
“This project does not require additional water from Delhi Jal Board and will work within the 2.7 Million litres per Day (MlD) water supply already available at the site from DJB. Additional demand will be handled through use of locally recycled water for non-potable uses,” added the official.
