Taking a cue from the girls of the Government High School, Rewari, who went on a hunger strike to get their school upgraded to Higher Secondary, a group of students of the Government High School at Kadarpur Village, Gurugram, have launched a sit-in protest outside their school demanding it's upgradation till Class 12.

At around 8 am on Friday, more than 170 students held a protest outside their school. The school is currently till Class 10. According to the students and the villagers, the students were demanding the school's upgradation from the last three years but their voices went unheard.

Meanwhile, the students in Kadarpur have locked up the school gate and have refused to open the school unless the district administration heeds to their demands. “We would put the demand of the students before the District Collector. We have given our recommendations for the upgradation to the higher authority as well,” District Education Officer Neelam Bhandari, said.

The Education officer who was present at the protest venue said, “We can understand the problem of the girl students who are staying for away from the school. We will put all efforts to get this school upgraded.”

“The nearest senior secondary school for the students of Kadarpur is seven kilometres away in the neighbouring Badshahpur. We face inconvenience to reach our school on daily basis. We are asking for help from the administration,” Ashok, a student said. The protesting girls said that they would not stop until the Government accepted their demand.

Earlier the Government had agreed to upgrade a high school in Rewari to Higher Secondary after students went on a hunger strike last week. They ended their protest only on Wednesday after their demands were accepted.
