Apparently miffed over the slow pace of desilting of drains, the lieutenant-Governor of Delhi Najeeb Jung will personally review the ongoing work by visiting certain areas in the Capital.
The decision to inspect desilting of drains comes as part of efforts to ensure that the city does not come to a standstill due to flooding during monsoons. Sharing the news at a stock taking meeting at Raj Niwas today, Jung said, “We will not accept the flooding of Delhi roads. All concerned must sit up and ensure that work is completed on a war footing. Wherever work related to desilting, etc remains pending, agencies must act with urgency and complete it within the next 10 days.”
The l-G, who reviewed presentations made in this regard by the DCs, agencies and Municipal Commissioners today, is scheduled to visit certain sites identified by his office between June 16 and 20. Jung had on Thursday expressed his displeasure over the laxity on desilting of stormwater drains after the Deputy Commissioners (DCs) of all the districts pointed out that work on the same in some areas did not match the claims made by agencies and MCD Commissioners. Taking a serious note of the matter, Jung had directed the DCs to provide photographic proof of the extent of work remaining in their respective districts.
