In order to boost health facilities to tackle coronavirus pandemic, Delhi Government added 20 ventilators to beds at Burari Hospital which will allow full fledged ‘Intensive Care Unit’ (ICU) treatments.

Delhi health minister Satyender Jain also inaugurated a medical and surgical waste management site at the hospital. “Burari Hospital has completed 4 months today, and I am proud of the work done by the staff, paramedics, doctors and nurses. To look after 1000 covid patients in such a short span of time, is an example of commendable work. Today, we have added 20 ventilators that will allow for full fledged ICU treatments. 20 non ventilated ICU beds are already available. There will not be a need to shift patients, and neither will patients have to look for other options for treatment,” he said.

Commending the hospital's staff, doctors, nurses and paramedics on the work done by them in the four months since their inception, he said that patients can now avail proper treatment.

Clad in PPE kit, Jain also visited the hospital's Covid ward and met with the patients admitted there. Reassuring them to not lose hope, he took their feedback and directed the hospital staff to follow up on the same.

Urging people to take proper precautions Jain said that Delhi is undergoing the third wave, and the most effective way to protect oneself from this virus is to wear a mask with due diligence. The spread can be curbed if both, the ones who are covid positive and the ones who do not wear a mask, he said.

The hospital will add another 30 ventilators by Saturday, increasing the capacity to 50. At present Covid tests are conducted from 9am in the morning till 3pm in the afternoon, and on Sundays, the tests are carried out from 9am to 1pm.

“The biggest threat in Covid is that of death. The youth have higher levels of immunity but the family back home, they are exposed to a greater threat. The most effective way to protect oneself from this virus is to wear a mask with due diligence. The spread can be curbed if both, the ones who are covid positive and the ones who are not wear a mask. I urge everyone to wear a mask. Prevention is better than cure. An interesting observation is that the lowest positivity rate is of the staff at Delhi’s covid hospitals. We are undergoing the third wave and hopefully all shall be fine soon.” said Jain.
