A Haryana cadre IAS officer Sanjeev Kumar, lodged in Tihar Jail for his role in the teachers recruitment scam along with former Haryana Chief Minister OP Chautala, was attacked by inmates on Monday. Sanjeev suffered blunt force trauma to his back and was admitted to Deen Dayal Upadhyay Hospital.
A case has been registered at Hari Nagar police station on the basis of his statement. Sanjeev claimed the inmates who assaulted him — when he was headed to Central Jail — had their faces muffled to escape detection and had demanded protection money from him. Sanjeev was lodged in jail no. 4.
“We have shifted him to a secure ward in jail no. 1. An internal inquiry is being conducted to get to the bottom of it,” said Sunil Gupta, PRO, Tihar Prisons.
