The Iranian woman who took Delhi Police for a ride by lodging a false complaint may face legal action for moving the Government machinery at false pretext.

The 25-year old Sanam had alleged that she was robbed off jewellery and also beaten up in Amar Colony area on Monday. She filed a complainant at Amar Colony police station but it was later revealed that she had forgotten her purse in a mall in Vasant Kunj. She lied to the police as she was too scared of her husband who could have upbraided her for losing the purse in the mall.

According to the police, the woman on Monday evening had given a complainant at Amar Colony police station in which she had stated that she as well as her husband were beaten up by two autorickshaw drivers and robbed off jewellery and cash worth lakhs. The moment the woman described the incident, investigations were launched. During investigations it was revealed that she had forgotten her purse inside the women washroom at the DlF mall in Vasant Kunj. She was scared of telling the truth to her husband as the purse contained cash, her passport and also gold jewellery over Rs.10 lakh. She had gone to sell the jewellery as the couple was planning to buy a property and she feared telling the truth. Hence, she thought the easy way out would be narrating a fake tale. Sanam infact tore her clothes and injured herself to prove she was speaking the truth.

The police scanned the CCTV footages of the mall which revealed that during the time of the incident she was at the mall. The woman later confessed to her guilt and divulged the real story to the police. Fortunately she was lucky enough as somebody had picked her bag and thrown it in the dustbin. "Our team searched the washroom at the mall and found her bag. She was handed over the bag with all her belongings intact. The lady has given us in written that it was her mistake. A court permission would be needed to file a case against her but as of now are enquiry is in progress," said Deputy Commissioner of Police (South-East district) Dr P Karunakaran.
