Injuries on Aarushi not caused by scalpel, claims forensic expert

SP Singh

Continuing his deposition in the much-talked about double murder case of Aarushi Talwar and her domestic help Hemraj, Dr RK Sharma, the defence witness and the head of the Forensic Sceinces Department at All India Institute of Medical Science (AIIMS) said on Tuesday that the injuries sustained on deceased Aarushi and Hemraj could not have been caused by a surgical scalpel of ‘10 size’ which normally used by any dentist for dental surgery. Aarushi’s parents were experts in such dental surgeries while the scalpel of bigger size is meant for deep surgeries to cut joint and bones used by surgeons.

Detailing his argument on a specific head injury of 8x2 centimetre, Dr Sharma claimed victims become unconscious instantly in such cases owing to excessive bleeding. It may be recalled that the prosecution had earlier claimed that Hemraj was killed in Aarushi’s bed room and was later dragged to the terrace. What was more baffling that there were no blood stains on the floor in Aarushi’s room.

During autopsy report, the stomach of Hemraj was found empty while the stomach of Aarushi was filled with semi-digested food that suggested about the timing of the twin deaths. The post-mortem report suggested that she was killed 8 to 10 hours before the autopsy was conducted on the body. The statement of Dr Sharma concluded Tuesday. The prosecution would cross examine him on Wednesday.

Dr Sharma was the fourth witness from Talwars. Earlier Rajendra Kaul, an acquaintance of the Talwar family had deposed before the designated CBI court.
