Defending the artistic freedom of makers of the upcoming film ‘Indu Sarkar’ the Youth Wing of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) held a protest at Rajpath against the Congress Party.

The film is set in the period of Emergency in India, the 21 month long period from 1975 to 1977 when there was a state of emergency across the nation and has characters inspired by former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi and Sanjay Gandhi. Even though it has been consistently stressed upon the fact that 70% of the story is fictional and 30% is based on true events, the party members of Congress are agitated about the portrayal of their late leaders.

During the protest, the National Media Incharge of Youth Wing of the BJP, Rohit Chehal said “During the time of emergency thousands of youth were put into jail and press was censored and consolation was given to the people. There is no point in building obstacles in the release of the film, when their main motive and agenda is to sensitize and acknowledge the youth of the country as to what actually had happened during that period”.

The Central Board of Film Certification has passed the film and suggested it to be released with 12 cuts and two disclaimers. “We have the freedom of expression and we will fight and make sure that the film gets released with no hindrance. There is nothing objectionable in the film and only showcases reality, not only the people were put behind the bars but were also sterilized. The youth should know what had exactly happened at that time”, said actress Ishika Taneja at the protest.
