The enthusiasm to get their fingers inked touched even the posh localities of Delhi as they witnessed sizeable turnout on polling day.

Voters of upscale constituencies like Ambedkar Nagar, New Delhi, Greater Kailash and Malviya Nagar, who usually abstained from the voting process, thronged polling booths on December 4 to make their choice count in the keenly contested Assembly elections. The average votes registered in such constituencies stood at an impressive 64.73 per cent this time. Six out of nine upmarket constituencies registered a staggering 65 per cent votes or above. Residents of Ambedkar Nagar were seen patiently queuing up. Having 46,726 votes polled and a voting percentage of 68.02 per cent, this seat saw the highest turnout among the other posh areas. The New Delhi constituency which has been vibrant with the total triangular battle between Congress’ Sheila Dikshit, Aam Aadmi Party’s Arvind Kejriwal and BJP’s Vijender Gupta and their appealing extensive campaigning, witnessed the second highest turnout of 65.95 per cent.

Interestingly, Greater Kailash, which in 2008 Assembly elections staged a poor show in terms of voting, saw a record turnout of 65.84 per cent. Jungpura saw 61.94 percentage of voting whereas Kasturba Nagar had a 65.57 per cent turnout. Malviya Nagar which poses a close contest between sitting MlA and Congress’ candidate Kiran Walia and BJP’s Arti Mehra also registered a strong attendance of 65.36 per cent. Kalkaji had 65.52 per cent and Mehrauli recorded a lowest of 61.53 per cent votes.
