Security of Tihar Jail has been beefed up after Intelligence inputs were received that the high profile prison may be targeted by terror outfits to free jailed terrorists.

The maximum security prison, which already has a three-layer security apparatus, was on Friday enhanced further after the inputs. Tihar houses many Pakistani nationals who are lodged under various sections of IPC and anti-terrorism law. Delhi Police is already on a high alert after Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) sent an advisory alerting about a possible suicide strike by lashkar-e-Tayyeba (leT) in the city. “Following high alert in the Capital, the security of the jail has been increased by several notches. No risk will be taken as far as security of inmates and the prison is concerned,” said DIG Mukesh Prasad.

“Tihar houses many hardcore terrorists and other high-profile inmates. Their security remains our topmost priority. There are reports that attacks may be carried out to release Pakistani terrorist lodged in here. Security has been enhanced and a tight vigil is being kept on every movement within and outside the jail,” said a Tihar source.

Tihar Jail currently houses many terrorists and politicians. Former Chief Minister of Haryana Om Prakash Chautala and Sahara Group chief Subrata Roy too are amongst the high-profile personalities cooling their heels in Tihar Jail.
