The entire security apparatus had gone into a tizzy last Saturday after a man called up the PCR to inform that he planted a bomb in Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s residence at the 7 Race Course Road.

After conducting the anti-sabotage drill as per the protocol of the PM’s security, security agencies traced the caller — who had made the call at the PCR stating, “I have planted bomb at PM’s residence” — to an unauthorised colony in East Delhi after two days and interrogated him for several hours. Senior officials said it was revealed that he was undergoing treatment for mental disorder. “His father informed us that he was mentally ill and undergoing treatment in a Government hospital. He was allowed to go after all the medical documents pertaining to his treatment were verified by the doctors. Police issued a warning to him and his father to be careful in future,” a senior police officer told The Pioneer. No case was registered in this connection, police said, adding, “The call was made with a mobile phone by a male on Saturday. He was speaking in Hindi,” a senior police officer told The Pioneer. Soon after the call, the special protection group (SGP) was also alerted.

“Though, the call appeared to be a mischievous one, it was taken seriously and all the measures were taken in order to thwart any incident,” added the officer.

The securitymen toothcombed the 7 Race Course Road and all the five bungalows in 12 acres at lutyen’s Zone. The operation lasted for over two hours. After the thorough search by the security agencies, the call was declared a hoax.

A team of Special Cell was also tasked to trace the caller. On Monday night, police managed to trace the address of the caller and subsequently, a 26-year-old man was caught. On further investigation, it was found that the accused was mentally ill and he used to made anonymous calls from his mobile phone. It was found that the man, interestingly, had a few years ago also called up police about planting a bomb in then CM Sheila Dikshit’s official residence.
