The first trial run of a hot air balloon ride at the newly redeveloped Baansera Park on the Yamuna floodplain will take place on Tuesday at 3.45 pm in the presence of Delhi Lieutenant Governor Vinai Kumar Saxena. The pilot launch marks a new tourism and recreation initiative planned for the 402-acre eco-park, which has been developed on what officials describe as the Capital’s most ambitious riverbank restoration project in recent years.
Officials said the hot air balloon service is part of a broader attempt to turn Baansera into a public attraction. The LG will review the trial run and assess safety, logistics and visitor management before a full public rollout is planned. Baansera Park, located near Sarai Kale Khan on the Yamuna bank, has been created on land that was once severely polluted and ecologically degraded.
Authorities said the transformation was achieved in just 18 months through large-scale clearing of waste, soil rejuvenation and extensive plantation. The project now showcases dense green zones, walking trails and restored floodplain features aimed at improving urban ecology.
The Tourism and Environment departments are coordinating the balloon trial, which they believe can add a new dimension to riverfront recreation and draw visitors from across the city. Officials said the next steps will depend on the trial’s outcome, including safety clearances and operational approvals. Further demonstrations are expected in the coming weeks.
