After organising prayer meetings claiming to “purify” JNU campus and “eliminate anti-nationals” Hindu Sena has decided to field candidates from its students wing for the JNU students union elections. JNU has become a centre of a nationalism debate in the last two months after three of its students were arrested in a sedition case over an event against hanging of Parliament attack convict Afzal Guru during which anti-national slogans were allegedly raised.
The keenly contested student elections are slated to be held in September, however, various outfits have begun their preparations for four crucial seats. Hindu Vidyarthi Sena (HVS) which started its JNU unit in 2013, claims that it has been organising prayer meetings and havans on campus, the latest being a prayer meeting on Ram Navmi held with an aim of “purifying the JNU campus.”
