After ITO skywalk, the Public Works Department is planning to construct a 'Heritage Walk' to provide a direct connectivity to six most visited and famous places of the national Capital with heavy footfall— Trade Centre (Pragati Maidan), National Science Museum, Purana Quila (Old Fort), Zoo, Sunder Nursery (recently converted as heritage park and Humayun Tomb. This walk will emerge as a 'heritage Walk' once the plan gets approval from the concerned authorities.

The main aim of the project is to make visitors feel at ease and connected. It will provide a direct link to these places to facilitate a nice trip to children, people and the tourists especially who commute from the public transport. Also, these sites witness a heavy footfall in lakhs on daily basis.

According to Sources, the suggestion was given by the Chairman and Managing Director (CMD) of India Trade Promotion Organisation (ITPO) to ease the travel and provide a smooth trip to the visitors and tourists. "He has written a letter to the secretary of Urban Development to consider a proposal to provide a direct link to connect the ITPO Pragati Maidan to Sunder Nursery which will also cover the Zoo, National Science Museum, Old Fort and Sunder Nursery. Also, these places are in public interest and visited by the people on large scale, said Sources.

The approximate foot fall on these sites such as National Science Centre - 60,9427, Old Fort - 80,000, Zoo- 65000,Sunder Nursery - 40,000 and around 8 to 9 lakh people visited Pragati Maidan during Trade Fair.

Besides this, this walk will also provide a connect to the nearby tourist sites such as National Crafts Museum, Masjid Khairul Manazil, Humayun Tomb, Neela Gumbad, Nizamuddin and India Gate.

"It has also been witnessed that people come to visit trade fair or any program organized in the trade center also plans to visit the nearby places but there is lack of connectivity as well as lack of public transport connectivity. The plan has yet to bore fruit from the concerned authorities. However, the School of Planning and Architecture (SPA) will be assigned the preliminary survey of the sites and project once, it get the approval," added the source.
