One-day strike called by Centre of Indian Trade Unions (CITU), remained peaceful in Gautam Buddh Nagar on Thursday, the primary reason for that was huge security arrangements. The workers of the union assembled at several places in large number but no incident of violence was reported like February’s incident in which the industry of Noida suffered loss of more than Rs500 crore.
On Thursday morning, several groups of factory workers mobilised in several parts, including industrial belts of the area, and shouted slogans against the factory owners and district administration. The also made several attempts to create stir but failed to do so due to large number of police force deployed. All senior officials of district administration and district police were on patrolling as the area had witnessed sporadic violence during the previous strike of trade unions. The workers later moved for national Capital to show solidarity with other union members.
GD Sharma, vice president of CITU for Delhi-NCR said that they have called total shutdown in the area and have given lists of our demands before the concerned authorities and if our demands are met, the region will witness more troubles. “We will call series of strikes in coming days and the industries should prepare to face dire consequences if not our demands are not met,” said Sharma.
“We have beefed up the security and increased patrolling in the region. We have ordered to detain suspected elements and to take all necessary steps to stop mobilising people at any particular place. We have also asked factory owners not to engage workers knowingly of unknowingly. The industrial belts are on close vigil as workers live nearby these belts in majority,” said a senior police official.
