The Delhi High Court on Wednesday said the only way to curb illegal constructions carried out in Sainik Farms area \\ is to start demolishing the buildings in one go to “send a chill down their spine” who indulge in such activities. A bench headed by Justice Pradeep Nandrajog made the observation while hearing a plea by an NGO alleging that large scale unauthorised construction is going on in Sainik Farms in South Delhi despite several orders of the court against such activity.
“We need to put in place a mechanism. At some stage this nonsense has to stop. One way is to start demolishing. We need to send a chill down their spines. When 50-60 illegal buildings will be demolished overnight, people will understand,” the bench observed. The NGO, Paardarshita Public Welfare Foundation, has contended that hundreds of fresh constructions having huge structures are coming up in the area and thousands of tons of building material is being brought there despite the court’s orders prohibiting the same.
