Delhi High Court on Wednesday instructed Delhi Jal Board (DJB) and South Delhi Municipal Corporation (SDMC) to rectify the basement seepage problem in six-week span of Kalu Ram complex in Mehrauli area.
Notably, residents and shop owners had complained several times about the said area with DJB while no response from DJB, the people moved to Delhi High court in August 2015 writ petition 11745.
Earlier, DJB told the court that since problem is related to basement seepage, the authority will not intervene. Meanwhile, the court ordered to Central Ground Water Board (CGWB )to submit a report on the status and nature of water.
The CGWB in its report has stated, “In isotope water test, this has come out that water minerals matched with DJB water and not with the ground water of the Kalu Ram Complex area. Hence it is proved that water in basement is either from leakage in DJB supply or from sewer line.”
Around 20 shops and residential complex are adversely affected due to basement seepage.
Rajesh, the petitioner said that water seepage in basement is harming the building's foundation. “We are unable to do our business in basement area.. where we will go , we have to take shops on rent in other areas.. and now it has become a life threatening. There is a fear of building collapse,” he said.
Appreciating to Rajesh Chandra , a senior hydrogeologist, CGWB, the court has directed to DJB to submit a final report on this problem.
