Facing flak over irrepressible growth in crime in residential areas, Noida Police will install 80 CCTV cameras on highrise blocks of various sectors to keep 24x7 surveillance. The decision was taken by police after a sudden spurt in cases of theft and snatching in residential areas.
Over 10 cases of crime have been reported in residential sectors of the city for the past couple of weeks. Presently, 122 CCTVs are functioning at 41 points while 200 additional cameras have been approved for vulnerable places, including border regions.
According to police officials, even though they have increased patrolling in the sectors, problems identifying the criminals persist. The CCTV cameras, installed by a few RWAs, help on certain occasions but these cameras often fail to provide clear footage. The cameras will be fitted on highrises so that police keeps vigil on every movement. Twenty six cameras will be PTZ (Pan-Tilt-Zoom), remaining will be fixed category. The cameras will be connected via a control room located in Sector 14A.
“After a go-ahead by Noida Authority, we have convened a meeting with RWA office bearers and started identifying vulnerable places. We have also invited an Expression of Interest (EoI) from companies to complete the project in three to six months. We have decided to fix PTZ cameras inside the sectors. The PTZ cameras at entry points will pan a greater area,” said Rajkumar Mishra, Deputy Superintendent of Police (Noida).
Two hundred CCTV cameras will be installed at all 16 entry points and other vulnerable zones, including Mahamaya flyover and industrial belts. With the installation of 80 more cameras, it would be easy to keep a close watch in the sectors as well. “We are already watching movements on various roads, installation of 200 cameras are underway and with approval of 80 more cameras, it will be easy to patrol every nook and cranny of the city,” said Mishra.
