The Haryana Police, in collaboration with Honda Motorcycle and Scooter India and Gurugram-based NGO World Resource Institute (WRI), will set up 13 police assistance booths on the 87-km stretch from the Delhi-Gurugram border to Rewari on National Highway-8.

The Haryana Police has also decided to deploy cops round-the-clock on the expressway. As a part of the project, 13 patrolling vehicles will be deployed and over-speeding detection cameras installed on the stretch between Gurugram and Rewari.

The traffic police have also pointed out the spot where the booths will be established. Seven police assistance booths will be set up in Gurugram and six in Rewari after every 5 to 12 km.

In Gurugram, the booths will be located on the Delhi-Gurugram border, leisure Valley cut, Beri Wala Bag, Community centre Kherki Daula, IMT Chowk, Panchgaon Chowk and Kapdiwas Border.

In Rewari, booths will be established near Parshawnath building Dharuhera, Jaika Restaurant New Gujrat Hotel Nikhri Dharuhera, Aryan Clean Quil Kasola, Asalwas petrol pump Kasola, Naichana cut District Parishad office Bawal and Shakti Yadav petrol pump Jai Singhpur Khera Bawal.

Sources said the project will be financed by the Road Safety Fund which is 50 per cent of the total revenue earned from traffic violator’s challenging by the traffic wing.

“We have been trained our cops to assist accident victims. They will be equipped with specially designed fully equipped uniform, walkie talkie, torch, first-aid kit and other accessories. They will patrol their areas in shifts,” Sibash Kabiraj, Gurgaon’s joint commissioner of police and State DIG (highways) said.

“Each booth will have a room for police personnel and an enclosure for an ambulance and rider. Cops on duty will assist in traffic management and help the accident victims,” he added.

“If any snatching incident takes place on the stretch the victims can approach the booth and cops will inform the nearest police station for help,” he said.

He said CCTV cameras were being installed on NH-8 to monitor traffic violators and criminals, as the State Government has passed 55 crores budget for the cameras.

As per the police data, the NH-8 in Gurugram has claimed 2,648 lives over the last six years while more than 1,188 persons have been injured over the last five year.
