Ghaziabad police on Monday arrested two criminals in an encounter that took place in the rural area under the jurisdiction of Nivari police station.

The police said during vehicle checking drive by staff of Modi Nagar police, three men were noticed riding on a motorcycle. When the police team asked them to stop for checking, instead of complying with police instruction, they tried to flee and one of them opened fire at the police team who tried to stop them.

Immediately after this, the police team alerted the police station. A team led by the Circle Officer (CO) Rajesh Kumar led the team and chased the criminals who sped towards Nivari. Seeing police following them, the villagers forced them to stop. When the driver stopped the bike, the two persons fled the spot while the third one who was driving, was nabbed by police with the help of villagers.

In the meantime the CO Modi Nagar started combing in the sugarcane fields where police succeeded to nab one of them. The third one, however, managed to flee.

Police arrested the duo who later confessed their criminal involvements. They were identified as Arun, resident of Partapur and Sonu, resident of Geza area of neighbouring Meerut district.

"We have recovered a pistol of .30 calibre and a country made pistol of .315 bore along with live cartridges. A motorcycle has also been recovered from their possession. They are being interrogated to know their criminal activities,” said CO, Modi Nagar Rajesh Kumar.
