House and property owners in Ghaziabad will have to cough up more money in the form of house tax as the Ghaziabad municipal corporation has hiked it by 10 per cent. A decision to this effect was taken in its board meeting on Wednesday. Municipal Commissioner RK Singh said that the increased rates would be applicable from the next financial year from April 2015.
A total of 44 proposals were placed before the board in which two proposals were rejected. The board considered 42 proposals, including the house tax. Although municipal councillor Rajrendra Tyagi insisted it to increase by 5 per cent but his proposal was rejected by the board.
The municipal corporation expressed its inability in funding the Metro line extension to Ghaziabad as the Ghaziabad Development Authority (GDA) has not paid the outstanding dues and that has resulted in severe fund crunch. The municipal corporation would only provide fund to Delhi Metro line extension provided GDA pays the outstanding dues of Municipal Corporation, an official said. The municipal board clarified that since there was no fund available with them hence the civic body was not in a position to provide any finances for the further extension of the DMRC project other than Dilshad Garden to New Bus Stand Metro line extension. No joint venture would be undertaken by the municipal corporation in future other than the existing Metro line project up to New Bus stand from Dilshad Garden, the board resolution stated.
