A tussle broke out between Ghaziabad Bar Association and district police over installation of statue of Baba Sahib Bhim Rao Ambedkar in civil court compound in Ghaziabad.

The police said some members of Ghaziabad Bar Association installed the  statue on court complex on New Year’s Eve night. When the court opened on Monday, a section of lawyers informed the police and requested them to remove the statue.

On the lawyers’ complaints, the police inspected the site and found that the installation of the statue was in violation of certain norms. Police removed the statue, which was being guarded by a section of lawyers, on Monday night.

“The mandatory approval of the district administration was not sought prior to install the statue,” said ADM (Executive) Gyanendra Singh.

Bar association president Rakesh Kakra said “The bar association passed a resolution to install the statue and installed accordingly. It was the decision taken by the entire executive of the bar association.”  He also condemned removal as insult to the maker of the Constitution.
