Moves EC against Sachi Ghildiyal

Ghaziabad lawyers’ stir turned took an ugly turn on Thursday after the police failed to take action against culpable constables who had manhandled and roughed up the former bar association secretary inside police precincts. Ghaziabad bar association president Anil Pandit said the woman SSP showed her inability to take any action against the erring constables although she claimed to have written to the Election Commission (EC) to grant her permission.

Not being satisfied with the SSP’s claim, the Ghaziabad bar association has sent a letter for transfer of SSP Sachi Ghildiyal to the EC. In the letter, the Ghaziabad bar association has requested the EC to transfer the SSP on account of not being able to take timely punitive action against the guilty constables and instead adopting dilly-dallying tactics to shield the accused constables who had roughed up a lawyer inside Kavi Nagar police station in an inebriated state.

The lawyers broke the metal detectors and damaged the barricades.  They also locked the police post, damaged furniture, broke chairs, threw tables and raised slogans against the police. Seeing the lawyers irate, the police force on duty quietly slipped and left the entire court compound unmanned.

In the meanwhile, inquiry into the matter has been transferred to senior police officer SP Rural Jagdish Sharma. The erring constables have been shifted to police lines and a final decision will be taken only after EC grants SSP permission to upbraid the constables.

“In its resolution, the bar association has decided to continue the agitation and sent a letter for transfer of the SSP,” said bar association president Anil Pandit. Earlier the bar association took the decision to go on strike after its former bar secretary Sashi Tyagi was manhandled at Kavi Nagar police station on April 13.
