Gzb all set to have mounted police unit

SP Singh

The Ghaziabad Police is all set to get mounted police unit. Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) of Ghaziabad requested the Vice-Chairman (VC) of the Ghaziabad Development to help the district police in raising its mounted police unit. The VC of GDA has accepted the suggestion and the authority has set the ball rolling for providing 12 highbred horses to the district police.

GDA officer on special duty DP Singh said the GDA had been financially assisting the police in different ways. In principal, the VC of the authority has agreed to provide them about a dozen best quality horses. The main concern is the maintenance of the mounted police and the SSP will have to get the nod from the State Government. Providing horses is a one-time expenditure but recurring expenditure has to be borne by the police department.

Giving details, SP City Shiv Hari Meena said, “The process of acquiring horses is under consideration but the details are with the SSP”. The infrastructure and the other aspects are to be studied carefully before going ahead to buy horses. “It was the time that the Ghaziabad Police raised the issue of mounted police unit for tackling the law and order situation,” Meena said.
