The Economic Offences Wing (EOW) of Delhi Police has arrested a gym owner for allegedly cheating a person to the tune of Rs 2.08 crore in the national Capital. Police said the accused is also found previously involved in two cases of cheating and fraud registered in the city.
The accused has been identified as Rahul Narang (46), who runs a modern Gym ‘Olympia’ in posh area of South Delhi. According to Dr OP Mishra, the Joint Commissioner of Police, EOW, a complaint was received from Harbhej Singh, Director, Harji Engineering Works Private Limited who alleged that in August, 2018 Shefali Narang, Rahul Narang, Rachna Narang and Rajinder Narang approached him to sell their portions of property in Greater Kailash-II.
“They represented that property is free from all kinds of encumbrances and there is no lien on the property either. Under these assurances complainant agreed to purchase the property for the total sale consideration of Rs 10 crore and initially paid an amount of Rs 2.08 crore to the alleged persons,” said the Joint CP.
“Later on the complainant came to know that said property was not free from encumbrances and financial institutions. Thus, the accused has been cheated to the tune of Rs 2.08 crore on misrepresentation. A case was registered and investigation was taken up,” said the Joint CP.
“Police team arrested Rahul and it was revealed that the accused under a pre-planned conspiracy, misrepresented the complainant that the property is free from all encumbrances whereas he had availed multiple loans from NBFCs on the same property,” said the Joint CP adding that to maintain his lavish lifestyle, the accused had borrowed money from several persons on false promises.
