The parents of Sanchit Chhabra and Ritu Singh, who were killed in an accident at the Punjabi Bagh flyover on Monday morning, have donated their children's eyes.

Seven students of the Guru Gobind Singh Indraprastha University (GGSIP) were heading towards Narela in a Honda city car when their vehicle lost control and went down a 40 feet high flyover and landed near the railway tracks.

Shattered over the loss of his 19-year-old son Sanchit Chhabra, his father Rajkumar Chabbra said that the family has decided to donate the eyes of their deceased son. “Sanchit was an intelligent boy. He was very hard-working. A day before his first exam, Sanchit studied till late night... It was when an NGO intervened and told us about organ donations that we made up our mind to donate his organs. However, since it was a brutal accident, doctors told us after the post-mortem examination that only his eyes can be donated. We are in grief but we believe that by donating Sanchit's eyes, his soul will be happy.”

Waiting at the mortuary of the Sanjay Gandhi Memorial hospital in Mangolpuri, the grieving family of Ritu Singh agreed with the decision made by Sanchit's family and they too made up their mind to donate Ritu's eyes. An 18-year-old girl, Ritu lived with her family in the Baljit Nagar area.

“From Monday onwards, the first year BBA students were supposed to commence with their second semester exams. Ritu was a bright girl.  Till 4 am, Ritu was studying for the Business Organisation paper. She barely slept for a couple of hours. Now that we have decided to donate her eyes, she will rest in peace,” said Malkhan Singh, Ritu's father.

later, Rajat succumbed to injuries at the Ganga Ram hospital. All the deceased had suffered serious head injuries and fractures. After sustained efforts by the local police, their bodies were taken out from the crumbled remains of the car.
