'Greedy' AAP MlA gets his comeuppance?

Staff Reporter

Manoj Kumar, Member of legislative Assembly (MlA) of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), has been embroiled in a controversy after his name figured in a First Information Report (FIR) registered at New Ashok Nagar. Manoj Kumar has been accused of cheating a man from his area for a few lakhs in 2012. The complainant claimed to be a business partner of Kumar as they both dealt in real estate. In his complaint before the police, he alleged that he was assaulted by the henchmen of the Kondli MlA when he had gone to ask for money on Saturday.

Taking cognisance of the complaint, the East district police registered a case under appropriate Sections of Indian Penal Code (IPC) and are probing the allegations levelled against the local MlA. The complainant, identified as Vinod Kumar, claimed that in November 2012 he struck a business deal with Manoj Kumar, who was property dealer then. The deal was finalised in East Delhi’s Ashok Nagar area. Vinod alleged he had paid `6 lakh to Manoj Kumar in November 2012 who had promised to sell him a plot. Vinod was shocked to find out later that the said plot was not owned by Manoj Kumar. Allegations are that Manoj kept on dilly-dallying when it came to return the money.  Vinod reportedly went to the MlA’s house on Monday to seek a refund and was allegedly abused and roughed up by his men and asked to leave. Following this, he registered complaint with the Ashok Nagar police station in East Delhi.

The MlA however, refuted the allegations that he ever knew Vinod Kumar. “I have been in this business since 2002 and have dealt with thousands of people. But no one has ever pointed a finger at me,” the MlA said. When asked why an FIR was lodged against him, the MlA said he would approach Vinod to assess the reasons behind lodging a criminal complaint against him. Meanwhile, the East district police officials said they have registered a complaint and filed an FIR under Section 420 of IPC for forgery and are investigating the same.
