'GRAND OlD DAME' GETS A FACElIFT?

Pramod Kumar Singh

Having suffered the worst political drubbing during the last Delhi Assembly elections, Delhi Pradesh Congress has decided to rope in the services of top-flight professionals who will dominate its functioning in the days ahead.

These professionals will help the party in resurrecting the image of the ‘grand old dame’ that has been reduced to a political non-entity in the national Capital. The team will have members with degrees from Harvard, Cambridge and other prestigious institutions.”

Delhi Congress president Ajay Maken is believed to have shortlisted some 10 professions after holding parleys with his partymen. The professionals, aged between 25 and 35 years, will be projected as the face of the party. The team will act as a shadow cell for the day-to-day functioning of the party, sources told The Pioneer on Tuesday.

The 10-member handpicked team has the sanction of the Congress president Sonia Gandhi herself and a formal announcement to this effect is most likely to be announced on Wednesday, the source added.

Top sources in Delhi Congress said that Ajay Maken’s new team will

include President Pranab Mukherjee’s daughter Sharmistha Mukherjee, Ragini Nayak, Amrita Dhawan, Ale Mohammed Iqbal, Prerna Singh, Abhishek Dutt, Rinku Jayant, advocate Chaitanya Singh, Aman Pawar, Anam Hassan, Rahul Dhaka. Rajesh Goel is likely to be nominated as chairman of IT Cell.

The most important thing is that most of the new members are less than 35 years while six of them are women. It is noted that Ale Mohammed Iqbal is a son of

Shoaib Iqbal, the fifth term MlA from Matia Mahal.  Shoaib Iqbal lost the Assembly polls in February this year. Rinku Jayant is a daughter of former Congress MlA Roopchand.

Rinku has also lost the last Assembly elections too. Rahul Dhaka is the son of senior Congress leader and former AICC secretary Jai Kishan.

According to a party insider, the role of the new team would be to make an

in-depth study on the Government projects and

policies. They will give strategic advice to the party on key issues concerning the city and the same would be used

to galvanise the party workers and educating the people.
