Govt's stunning U-turn over Sheila

Staff Reporter

The Aam Aadmi Party Government has not initiated any corruption case against former Delhi Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit, though the party had during the Assembly election campaign alleged irregularities during her tenure as CM in the national Capital.

Replying to an RTI query on the complaints received by it, the Delhi Government has stated that only one complaint was received from a ludhiana-based resident against her. The application from lucknow-based RTI applicant Sanjay Sharma was forwarded by Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal’s office to Directorate of Vigilance to provide information on cases registered by the present Government.

The vigilance department forwarded it to Anti-Corruption Branch which said no such information is available in its record. The vigilance department comes under the AAP Government. The AAP had raked up the issue of alleged corruption during the tenure of Dikshit as Chief Minister in the election campaign and had swept the Assembly polls early this year by winning 67 of the 70 seats.

Recently, Delhi Water Minister Kapil Mishra had written to Kejriwal  that probe be initiated against Dikshit and some Congress MlAs in the steel tanker purchase case.

Despite Mishra’s plea, the CM had not given orders for  probe into the case. “The report is-self explanatory and exposes how the then DJB chairperson and Chief Minister Sheila Dikshitji and other board members have consistently by-passed laws and rules to cause a loss of almost Rs 400 crore to the Delhi Jal Board. I am forwarding this report to you with the request that a FIR should immediately be lodged by Delhi government based on this report against all those involved in this scam,” Mishra’s letter said.

In 2012, about 400 water tankers were acquired by the DJB and manufactured by a private contractor after receiving complaints of irregular service. The purchase of these water tankers was aimed at ensuring seamless service across Delhi. The capacity of

these tankers was supposed to range between three and nine kilolitres.

The fact finding committee of the Delhi Jal Board had stated that there was no case of corruption made out against the previous Congress government and its MlAs.

Besides, the AAP Government was making an issue of the CNG fitness scam case being probed by the anti corruption branch. The AAP leaders have also alleged irregularities in the 2010 Commonwealth Games in Delhi. The AAP Government had in its previous 49 days regime directed the anti corruption branch to probe street light scam during Commonwealth Games 2010.
