In its endeavour to positively engage parents in the education of their children, the Delhi Government on Friday announced ‘parent workshops’ programme for its schools. The programme will be conducted in phases with first set of workshops beginning on November 15 in Delhi Government-run schools across the city.

“Initially, the workshops will only be conducted for parents of children appearing for Board examinations while a full-fledged roll-out of this programme is set to begin from January next year,” said Delhi Government in a statement.

Under this programme, the parents can spend their evenings at the workshops, which would help in creating the right environment for their children to study at home.

It is a well-known fact that board students are under immense pressure to perform and this step will definitely help ward off the extra pressure on students by creating an environment conducive to their studies.

However, the workshops will not be mandatory and is only on voluntarily basis. “The involvement of parents in the education of children makes a significant difference to their performance. The workshops are aimed at working with parents to help create the right kind of environment for children even at their homes,” said Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia .

“Parents will also be sensitised on how to play a supportive role with children to reduce their stress,” he added.
