With the Haryana Government allegedly curtailing its water supply to the national Capital, the Delhi Chief Minister’s Office (CMO) on Tuesday tweeted, “Delhi Govt to cut down water supply in VIP & VVIP areas for equal distribution after water supply from Haryana interrupted.”

Addressing the Press conference, Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia said that the water issue should not be politicised and the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) should intervene.

“Delhi water crisis still not resolved. Supply is being interrupted despite court order. I have directed DJB to file contempt petition in HC,” Sisodia tweeted.

Talking to The Pioneer, Kehsav Chandra, CEO, Delhi Jal Board said that the water problem is being discussed at the secretary level of both Delhi and Haryana States.

“We are conveying this issues among the people as Wazirabad and Chadrawal as the water supply from both the plant is 60 per cent,” said the  DJB officer.

Delhi’s water requirement is 900 Million Gallons per Day (MGD), but it is falling short by about 50 MGD since May 8, according to a senior DJB official.

“Haryana has reduced water supply to Delhi. I have told Chief Secretary to talk to his Haryana counterpart to ensure immediate supply of water,” Sisodia said in a tweet on Tuesday night.

Sisodia is holding the charge of the Water Ministry, since rebel Aam Admi Party (AAP) leader and former Water Minister Kapil Mishra was sacked from the Delhi Cabinet.

If Haryana continues to cut water supply to Delhi, there may be shortage of water in some areas of the city, another official said. As per the DJB water records, Haryana, the most neighboring State of Capital   releases nearly 1,190 cusecs of water in the Wazirabad pond daily.

Whereas, since May 8,  1,000 cusecs water is being released and due to this  water level has dropped by two feet.  DJB supplies 900 MGD water per day to Delhi’s residents.

The water supplying authority opted social media platform to convey the water shortage message. Tweeting on water crisis, DJB said: “Due to acute drop of pond level in River Yamuna and reduced supply of water in ClC, the production of water from 3rd 40 MGD plant at Wazirabad has been curtailed up to 30 per cent.

The affected areas were Walled City, some areas of New Delhi Municipal Council (NDMC), Mukherjee Nagar, Model Town, Rajouri Garden, Adarsh Nagar, Timarpur, Kingsway Camp, Azadpur, among other places in north Delhi.
