Two petrol pumps in the Capital have been challaned for discrepancies in measurement while dispensing of petroleum products. The action was taken during a crackdown against supply of adulterated petrol and diesel by the Delhi Government.

The surprise inspections were carried out by the Department of Food Supplies and Consumer Affairs of the Delhi Government during a drive to check adulteration and malpractices in dispensing of petroleum products at pumps across the national Capital.

According to officials, six teams were constituted for simultaneous surprise inspections under Essential Commodities Act, 1955. The six teams conducted checks at service stations in Majnu ka Tilla, Ghevra, Vikaspuri, Jasola, Dhansa border and Mayur Vihar.

Officials claimed that challans were issued on the spot to two petrol pumps for discrepancies in measurement and unavailability of verification certificate by the staff of the petrol pump.

A senior official said that each team comprised four members and was headed by an Assistant Commissioner (Food & Supply). “Teams checked density, quantity of the products and also took sample for further action,” a senior official said, adding such checks would continue over the next few weeks.
