'Govt running away from duty'

Delhi BJP president Satish Upadhyay on Monday slammed the AAP Government for “running away” from its responsibility in case of a DTC bus driver’s death and said it would provide a financial help of Rs5 lakh to family of the road rage victim.

The strike led by DTC employees on Monday against the death of a DTC driver in a road rage incident led to a political unrest with Delhi Transport Minister Gopal Rai squarely blaming the BJP for the unrest. The strike was called by DTC employees on Monday.

Blaming the party, Rai said, “BJP is playing politics over this road rage incident,” adding “Stringent actions will be taken on the way DTC drivers and conductors are treated.”

The Transport Minister assured that strict action would be taken against those maltreat bus conductors or drivers.

Refuting Rai’s allegation Upadhyay said, “AAP’s allegation was not a new thing. I can also allege that some people are saying those who were involved in the incident were connected to AAP and Gopal Rai went there to save the accused.”

A delegation of Delhi BJP leaders would meet the family of deceased DTC bus driver Ashok’s family and provide a relief of Rs5 lakh, he said.

Demanding Rs1 crore compensation from the AAP Government for the driver’s family, Upadhyay said, “AAP had promised to provide security in DTC buses for women passengers but even bus drivers and conductors were not safe which raised question over Delhi Government’s functioning.”
