While the Delhi Government started the demolition of the controversial BRT corridor in January amid celebrations, it has already proposed plans for two new BRT corridors, albeit elevated this time, in this year’s
Budget. While one of the two elevated BRT corridors will stretch from Anand Vihar Terminal to Peeragarhi (also called East-West Corridor), the other will be from Wazirabad to Airport (also called North-South Corridor).
“While we dismantled BRT corridor because people were against it, but we have decided to build two elevated BRT corridors on a pilot basis. We will appoint consultants to conduct a detailed study on them before we proceed. And if these corridors are successful and gain public support, then we will create a web of elevated BRT corridors across the whole Delhi. This will be done under Public Private Partnership model,” said Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal.
